  •  San Diego County has entered the Medium CDC COVID-19 Community Level and a reminder of our monitoring/protocols
  •  Covid test kits are being provided with updated guidance on when to test from the CDPH
  • Additional test kits are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility
  • Test on January 2nd and January 5th upon returning to school is encouraged but not required
  • Reminder: stay home if Covid positive and for flu/cold symptoms until symptoms improve.

Student Passwords To Be Reset January 10th

The SDUSD Information Technology Department will reset all student passwords as part of their work to address the cybersecurity incident that took place Dec. 1st. The incident involves unauthorized access to San Diego Unified School District’s computer network.

Student passwords across the city will be reset over the course of two weeks. Dana students will receive their new password from their teacher on the morning of January 10th. The old password will continue to function until the night of January 9th. More information to follow.

We regret any concern or inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your understanding and support during this time.

Character Education Focus: Generosity And The Joy Of Giving - Watch The Video

This month our character education is focused on Generosity and The Joy of Giving. Research indicates that showing generosity and giving to others has many benefits, such as increased happiness and connectedness. Teachers and staff will be sharing information and conducting discussions to help Dana students show generosity and find joy in giving. Thank you for your support in our canned food drive, toy drive and with Adopt-a-Family donations. For more information click here to view our monthly broadcast.

SD Food Bank Thanks Dana Families

On behalf of The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, but more importantly those we serve, I want to thank you and the rest of your supporters at Dana Middle School for hosting your food drive event with us! Your most recent food drive brought in 381 pounds of food that will allow us to provide 317 meals to those in need. That is an incredible impact! Please share our gratitude with all who were involved. With the addition of the North County Food Bank, we now provide emergency food to 400,000 children and families, active duty military, and fixed income seniors living in poverty every month. You make it possible for them to bridge the gap between their limited income and their dinner table. Your continued support is vital to our success and we deeply appreciate it. Thank you again for making a difference through this food drive.

Tips for Winter Virus Prevention

The following information was distributed by the Dana Health Office Staff.

This winter season, let’s celebrate and gather in ways that limit the spread of respiratory viruses like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), flu, and COVID-19. Follow these tips from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to protect yourself and others,

Additionally, please take a moment to watch Stay Healthy this Winter: Tips to Protect Yourself and Family, a YouTube video featuring California State Epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan that reminds Californians to stay healthy this winter.

Teacher Karen O’Hern - Newsela Spotlight Educator

6th Grade Language Arts teacher Karen O’Hern was recently acknowledged for her work in promoting literacy at Dana Middle. Ms. O’Hern uses an online application known as Newsela to build independent reading skills through choice. Specific topics or articles spark high interest and the word spreads quickly because several students across a class period will have read the same one. This allows them to share interests and increase academic discussions amongst themselves.

All parents have access to Newslea content at home. Go to newsela.com, select Join Now and select the option for "Parent, Tutor, or Caregiver".
