5th Grade GATE Testing March 20-22

The San Diego Unified School District GATE office has decided to offer GATE testing to 5th grade students who meet the following criteria:

5th grade students who have never been tested

5th grade students who scored above the 85th percentile during the previous CogAt test administration

The SDUSD GATE office does not offer GATE testing for students in 6th grade and does not allow students to take the test more than twice. Questions regarding the SDUSD GATE retesting criteria should be directed to the SDUSD GATE office at [email protected].

Students who earn a lower score the second time they take the test will retain the previous higher score. Students previously identified as GATE Seminar will not retake the test.

All students eligible for retesting will receive an OPT OUT letter in their Language Arts class on February 9th. Students who do not return the OPT OUT letter to their language arts teacher by February 27th will be tested in their language arts class between March 20 and 22nd. Schedule information will be distributed to students prior to the administration of the assessment.

GATE scores are used as only one of multiple data points when placing students in the Honors Humanities program at Dana, Correia Middle, and Point Loma High. Click this link to learn more about our Honors program, including placement criteria.
