NEW Friendship Fridays Counseling Group

A counseling group for Dana students aimed to improve friendships, connections, empathy and communication.

Ms. Cox, our 5th Grade Counselor, will be hosting counseling groups for students during 1st and 2nd recess every Friday.

Any student interested in attending will eat in the lunch court and head to Ms. Cox's office when they are finished eating.

The Friendship Fridays group has an open door policy; all students are welcome, students may join one time or every week, they can just show up!

Every session the group will:

  • Learn the importance of confidentiality and agree to keeping all discussions within the group (but can share with an adult).

  • Agree to leave other students' names out of all discussions to respect privacy

  • Answer a check-in prompt that gauges how everyone is feeling

  • Respond to a reflective question that captures common social/friendship topics experienced by middle school aged students.  Some examples include...

    • How would you describe yourself as a friend?

    • What qualities are important to you in a friendship?

    • Share a time when you stepped out of your comfort zone to make a new friend.

    • Share a time when it was hard for you to talk to a friend.

    • Why is it hard to let go of some friendships?

  • Engage in a kind and supportive group discussion that fosters empathy, active listening, and learning from peers.

For questions, please contact Sabrina Cox at [email protected].

Fifth Grade Families and CHKS Survey

Fifth grade students will be taking The California Healthy Kid Survey in Social Studies class on Friday, March 15.

The CalSCHLS system was created by the California Department of Education (CDE) in 1997 to efficiently and cost-effectively provide school districts and their partner communities with quality local data which can be used to improve student academic performance and social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health of all youth. It assesses key indicators linked to success in school, career, and life.

Parents can choose to opt their child out of the survey. Click this link to submit your opt out form: https://forms.gle/z6ZPcZf9xFJb69ey9. Parents requesting that their child not take the survey should complete the opt out form by Monday, March 11.

5th and 6th Grade Parents to Take California Schools Parent Survey Prior To March 29th

There are three parts to this survey:

  • California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) - Completed by 5th grade students in their Social Studies classroom on Friday, March 15th.
  • California School Staff Survey (CSSS) - taken by Dana Staff
  • California School Parent Survey (CSPS) - taken by Dana Parents before March 29th

All three surveys were developed by WestEd with the help of Duerr Evaluation Resources and expert advisory committees of educators, researchers, and practitioners. The staff and parent surveys were added to address the needs of districts for data on school working conditions, parent involvement, and enable comparison of staff and parent perspectives to student self-reports.
Follow this link for more information. Parents can choose to opt their child out of this survey. Click this link to submit your opt out form.
