State Superintendent Acknowledges Dana as Purple Star School

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond recently announced that Dana Middle is one of 31 schools designated as Purple Star Schools. The newly created California Purple Star School Designation Program (Purple Star Program) publicly recognizes schools that are committed and equipped to meet the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.

We would like to thank PE Teacher Rodger Rosenberg who facilitates our Military Kids Unite club for the time and energy he has invested into supporting our students. We would also like to thank Nakeya Gilmore, our Military Liaison, for helping us complete the application process.

Purple Star Program schools seek to reduce the burdens on military-connected students and their families by providing support, creating transition programs, and offering staff professional development. This is the first year that schools are being recognized for this award, and the California Department of Education (CDE) plans to make it an annual recognition program.

First Semester Grades Available In PowerSchool February 4th

To assist secondary schools in storing first semester grades, the San Diego Unified School District made the decision to extend the grade processing window for teachers to February 4th. The last day of the grading term will NOT change. Teachers closed their grade books for the first semester on the last day of the semester, January 21st. The extension will allow educators who are out ill during this time additional days to finalize their grades prior to the site tech storing them by February 4th for distribution.

Parents can view their child’s report card grades after February 4th in PowerSchool.

Thank You Crack Shack and FoDaC!

We are happy to report that we raised $240.00 at The Crack Shack on January 27th. The food was delicious. We hope you were all able to support FODAC and enjoy the food.

The next FoDaC fundraiser is Jensen's. Visit Jensen's Foods the week of February 22-26 for all of your grocery needs. Collect your receipts and have your student turn them into their first period teacher every day that week. Jensen's will donate 10% of all receipts collected back to the schools. The final day to turn in receipts will be Monday, February 28. Thank you for your support. Click to download an informational flyer.

Thank you Liane Matherne for helping to organize these events!
