Important information regarding course offerings for SY24/25 at Dana
Mr. Bosselman sent a letter to the community on Jan 25, 2024 outlining the adjustments in course offerings at Dana MS for next year. These adjustments are based on budget reductions and declining enrollment which leads to the need to reduce teachers at the school site. The current student schedule for SY 23/24 was planned with 682 students, and our projected enrollment for next year is 643. You can read more details in Mr. Bosselman’s letter at this link.
Principal’s Council at Dana Middle School
Principal Bosselman and Associate Principal Simon are seeking students interested in joining the Principal’s Council. The Principal’s Council is a group of students who meet regularly with the Principal and Associate Principal to discuss student life at Dana Middle School. This council is a voluntary group and is open to any student who is interested in taking part. The Principal’s Council is a space for students to engage in direct dialogue with the administration about school decisions and to have a voice in the decision-making process.
At the February assembly, we will announce the start of the Principal’s Council and will seek volunteers from the student body. The composition of the Principal’s Council should be representative of the entire student body. If you know students who are interested, please have them complete the form at the assembly, or they can complete this google form declaring their interest. Parents/Guardians and staff members may recommend a student for the council by completing the form as well.

School Dance and Expectations
The Valentine Dance is scheduled from 12:45 - 2:15 pm on Thursday, February 8. With any school function at Dana Middle School, students need to maintain adequate citizenship in order to qualify. As mentioned in the student handbook, all students may participate in school events unless they have 2 or more U’s (unsatisfactory). If a student receives 2 or more U’s in citizenship, they will not be eligible to participate in the school event for that grading period. Students do have the opportunity to improve their citizenship every 6-week grade period.
Social-Emotional Learning at Dana in January
January’s Life Skill of the Month is Self-Regulation
Dana Counselors will be visiting classrooms this month to present lessons on self-regulation, managing emotions, handling stress, coping skills, and relaxation techniques.
We encourage parents to have conversations with their child about these topics—check out the Parent Connection! Ask your child about the counseling lessons. Here are some follow-up reflective questions you can use at home:
● What emotion is the most difficult for you to cope with?
● How does your physical body respond when you experience this emotion?
● What are some strategies you can use to cope?
