Monday, January 17th - Martin Luther King Day

This Monday, January 17th is Martin Luther King Day, a national holiday, honoring the King’s life and work. King committed his life to advocating for equality for all races and MLK day was created to honor his legacy. The purpose of MLK day is not to have a day off but rather to have a “day on” to engage in service that addresses social problems, and strengthens communities.

We encourage Dana families to take some time over the long holiday weekend to talk about the MLK Jr. and his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement as well as “do something good”. Please explore the age appropriate resources below

January Jog-A-Thon & Elementary Student Tours Postponed

The San Diego Unified School District recently announced that indoor/outdoor events including school dances are no longer allowable based on the number of positive COVID-19 case rates in San Diego County. This status will be reconsidered January 31, 2022 based on the number of COVID-19 cases in the county.

The following events have been postponed:

  • January - Cookie Dough Awards Celebration
  • January 26th - 6th Graders Visit to Correia Middle
  • January 27th Jog-A-Thon
  • January 24th - February 4th - 4 Graders Visit Dana Middle
  • February 17th - Valentines Day Dance

We are in the process of re-scheduling these events. Information will be shared with families and staff when it becomes available.

KF94 Masks Available For Students

San Diego Unified students and staff can look forward to a brand new shipment of KF94 masks coming to their schools this week, the latest effort in the fight against the new Omicron variant.

Now more than ever, with Omicron being highly contagious, it is very important that an appropriate mask is worn at all times, unless eating outside. While cloth masks and surgical masks are still allowed, the best protection is provided by N95 masks or masks of that style, including KN95 and KF94. To learn more about the district's mask requirement and the benefits of wearing a mask, see our Frequently Asked Questions. Follow this link to stay up to date regarding COVID information.

Do you purchase goods on Amazon.com? Did you know it’s easy to raise money for the Friends of Dana and Correia Association (FoDaC) with one simple move when you shop?

If you use smile.amazon.com (or turn on the AmazonSmile setting in your mobile app) when you shop, Amazon donates .5% of our eligible purchases - at no cost to you. It’s the same Amazon experience, but with the perk of raising money for our schools.

For now, select "Steven V. Correia Junior High School Foundation” as your beneficiary. This is the organization name associated with FoDaC’s tax ID. Changing the name in AmazonSmile is still in the works. It should change automatically when available, but we’ll be sure to let you know when the change has been made.
