Dana Acknowledged As No Place For Hate School!

Dana Middle has been recently acknowledged by the Anti Defamation League as a No Place For Hate School. No Place For Hate (NP4H) is a program designed to engage students and staff in dialog and active learning around topics of bias, bullying, inclusion, and allyship. Students and staff identify issues that apply to the school, explore ways to address these concerns, and create small group and school-wide programs to help promote the development of an inclusive culture at school.

Learn how students and staff at Dana came together to address rumors, name-calling, and bullying on campus.

Our students spent hours of time researching and creating solutions to address the concern they identified. Thank you for helping to create a positive culture on campus! We would like to give a special shout-out to  Elizabeth Palacz, Sammy Nebula, Sabrina Cox, Linda Reardon, and Joseph Nelson who served as our club advisors. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Community Assistance Needed With eBikes

The Dana staff is asking for assistance with helping keep our students safe. We have noticed a recent increase in 10-12 year old students who are allowed to ride eBikes to school. This fact concerns us for a variety of reasons:

  •  Chatsworth Blvd. is a busy thoroughfare
  •  We have witnessed students weaving through traffic on Chatsworth Blvd or riding at high rates of speed on sidewalks
  • Children are not familiar with the concept of blind spots or the length of time it takes for a motor-vehicle operator to stop or slow down a car or truck
  • Many eBikes can travel between 30 and 40 mph. This is faster than the legal speed limit on the streets around our school
  • Some students attempt to ride their eBike without a helmet

Please enroll your child in a safety program prior to purchasing an eBike. Remind students that they must obey all traffic laws when operating their vehicle. We cannot allow students to ride an eBike, a traditional bicycle, skateboard, or scooter to and from school without a helmet. We will confiscate items from children who habitually attempt to ride without a helmet and require parents to come to school to pick up the item.

NOTE: We witness many student owners of expensive eBikes leaving their vehicles unlocked in our bike rack area. Please understand we are not financially liable for vehicles stolen from our bike rack area. We do not recommend riding expensive bicycles or eBikes to school. If the financial impact of losing the vehicle will negatively impact your finances then we recommend you do not allow your child to ride the bike to school. A cheap bicycle is a recommended alternative.

May 26th - 29th Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. All schools will be closed on both days.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
