FoDaC Expands After School Homework Club For Students

The Friends of Dana and Correia Middle School Parent Association is partnering with the Dana Math Department to expand our current after school academic program. Starting the week of January 30th, there will be a math teacher available through Homework Club to support students specifically with math assignments. Mrs. Hause will work with students on Mondays and Mr. Taylor will be supporting students on Tuesdays.

This support is available to students who are currently signed up for homework club, or families can use this link to sign up: https://forms.gle/jhkpaXKaq195WDxo6.  Students will report to the Dana library immediately after school to participate, and then will attend the math-focused support classes in Mrs. Hause and Mr. Taylor's classrooms to lower the sizes of each group. Students will be dismissed from Homework Club at 3:55 PM.

New Student Hydration Stations Installed at Dana

Our district has completed the installation of new hydration stations at Dana Middle. Students now have access to bottle water filling stations throughout the campus. Fun fact: our government requires companies to meet the 5 parts per billion requirement when selling bottled water. Our stations provide students with water that meets the 1 part per billion threshold.

Students with Disabilities Now Have Access To iReady

The Dana Middle Special Education Department is coordinating with FoDaC to provide students with disabilities with access to iReady. iReady is an online tool designed to support students who are struggling with grade level literacy skills. This program is being incorporated into the curriculum taking place in Mr. Jiampa and Ms. Palacz’s Study Skills classrooms. We would like to thank your parent association for their support.

Middle School Athletics Update

Lonnie Jones oversees the Middle School Athletics program. All questions related to this program should be directed to Mr. Jones at [email protected]. Mr. Jones distributed the following message to parents:

Dear San Diego Unified Families,

The tryout times at your middle school for the week of January 9, can be found on this middle school tryout practice schedule. If you do not see your middle school listed, it means there were not enough sign ups to field a team. If you see a box with an “X” in it, that indicates there is no practice on that day.

Please have you students meet their coaches in the PE area.  Students should wear comfortable attire and closed toed shoes.  Please have your students bring a water bottle as well.

Based on the adjusted timeline, the announcement of teams will be posted on the SDUSD Middle School Athletics website at https://sdusdathletics.com/middle-schools/ on Monday, January 16th.

The full season of scheduled contests with times and locations will be released January 16th with our first contests taking place on Saturday, January 21st.

There are 15 spots per volleyball team & 20 spots per soccer team thus finalizing a roster is always a challenging time for every coach. We encourage you to have your student attend both days next week thus giving the coach a chance to assess each player’s ability.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of Middle School Athletics.

 Lonnie Jones

SDUSD Middle School Athletics Coordinator

We are only at 20% of our fundraising goal of $30,000, and we need your support! Funds raised will assist teachers and staff members, supply supplemental educational materials and student experiences, and support school and family social interactions. Without the generosity of your tax-deductible donations, these enrichment programs and special events are not possible. We know with everyone’s support we will have a successful campaign with spectacular outcomes that enrich our children and community! Click this link for more information.
